Manchester United finally have something to celebrate. Michael Carrick's side came from two goals down to beat Roma 3-2 at Old Trafford in the Champions League on Tuesday night, ending a nine-game winless run in all competitions.

From 2-0 down

The night started as badly as United's recent form suggested. Matias Soulé put Roma ahead in the 11th minute, and Donyell Malen doubled the lead from the penalty spot six minutes later, according to UEFA and Ahram Online.

United responded after the break. Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty in the 58th minute, and Matheus Cunha then struck twice in the space of three minutes, in the 83rd and 86th minutes, to complete the turnaround.

It was a significant moment for Carrick, whose position had come under growing pressure after a 2-0 league defeat at Chelsea on Saturday left United just a point above the relegation zone. Cunha, who had a goal ruled out for offside at Stamford Bridge, was the hero this time.

Villa beaten in Barcelona

There was no such joy for Aston Villa, who were well beaten 3-0 by Barcelona. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring early, and Raphinha added two second-half goals, in the 52nd and 64th minutes.

PSG run riot

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain produced the most emphatic result of the night, scoring four goals in the opening 17 minutes on their way to a 6-0 win at Villarreal. João Neves, Désiré Doué, Senny Mayulu and Fabián Ruiz scored early, Ruiz added a second after half-time and Boly completed the rout late on.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich won 2-0 at Atlético Madrid through goals from Lennart Karl and Konrad Laimer, Inter won 3-0 at Feyenoord and Galatasaray beat Stuttgart 2-0.
