The Ghana Premier League title race is tighter than ever after Matchday 9. Medeama and FC Samartex are level at the top on 18 points, Hearts of Oak slipped to third after a shock defeat to debutants Debibi United, and Asante Kotoko were held at home by the champions.

Kotoko held by Medeama

The headline game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium ended 1-1. Usman Safianu headed Medeama in front from a Prince Owusu free-kick in the 42nd minute, before Kotoko captain Musah Hamzarat equalised with a powerful header ten minutes after half-time, according to the GFA and GH Sports News.

The result keeps Medeama top on goal difference, while Kotoko sit 10th on 13 points, the GFA said.

Samartex win the Western derby

Samartex moved level with the leaders by beating Bibiani Gold Stars 1-0. Christian Agyenim Boateng, who scored the late winner against Medeama two weeks ago, converted a 25th-minute penalty for the only goal.
