Medeama go three clear as Hearts climb and Kotoko slip at Swedru
Medeama SC have opened up a three-point lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League after Matchday 6, while Hearts of Oak climbed to second and Asante Kotoko suffered another setback away from home.
Medeama pull clear
The defending champions beat Heart of Lions 3-1 at the TnA Stadium. Emmanuel Annor gave Medeama the lead in the 28th minute, and Kingsley Braye then struck twice in quick succession midway through the second half to put the game beyond doubt. Komi Mawutodzi Agbadji scored a late consolation for Heart of Lions.
The win takes Medeama to 14 points from six games, according to GhanaSoccernet and 3News.
Hearts back on track
Hearts of Oak ended a run of matches without a win by beating newly promoted Port City 1-0 at the University of Ghana Stadium. Frank Duku's first-half header was enough to lift the Phobians to second on 11 points.
Kotoko stung in Swedru
Kotoko's revival under their interim technical team stalled at the Swedru Stadium. After a goalless first half, left-back Patrick Asiedu fouled Baah Junior in the box, and Wiafe Darkwah converted the penalty to give Swedru All Blacks a 1-0 win. The defeat leaves Kotoko in mid-table on eight points.
Bechem's comeback
The most entertaining game of the round came at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, where Bechem United came from behind to beat Vision FC 4-2. Emmanuel Kobi gave Bechem a half-time lead, but Vision scored twice early in the second half through Benjamin Kwarteng and Ruben Quaye. Yaw Acheampong equalised, Kofi Tompuo put Bechem ahead late on, and a stoppage-time own goal completed the turnaround.
