Manchester City's perfect start is over, and the Premier League title race has a new shape. Aston Villa beat City 2-1 on Saturday, and Arsenal's 2-0 win over Everton means the two sides are now level at the top on 21 points.

Villa end City's run

City had won all seven league games before their trip to Villa Park. Nicolas Jackson scored twice for Unai Emery's side to inflict a first league defeat of the season on the leaders, according to GB News. It came days after City's 5-1 Champions League win over AEK Athens, and two weeks after their 3-0 win at Anfield.

Arsenal draw level despite Saka blow

Arsenal took full advantage with a 2-0 home win over Everton, with Ezri Konsa opening the scoring, GB News reported. Mikel Arteta made several changes after Wednesday's draw in Munich and afterwards criticised what he called a terrible schedule, according to GOAL.

They did it without Bukayo Saka. The winger limped off after 10 minutes against Bayern Munich with a quadriceps injury, and Arteta said before the Everton game that he expected Saka to be out for weeks, with repeat scans due in seven to ten days. Press reports have suggested he could miss six to eight weeks, but the club has not set a timescale. Christos Tzolis is also sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Spurs win at Stamford Bridge

Tottenham produced the shock of the weekend, winning 2-0 at Chelsea. Cole Palmer was sent off for a second yellow card, and GB News notes it was only Spurs' second win at Stamford Bridge since 1990. It follows their first league win of the season against Coventry last Monday.

Liverpool beat Brighton

Liverpool won 2-0 against Brighton at Anfield on Sunday, although Florian Wirtz will need to be assessed after the game, according to Dave Sport.

Carrick under pressure

Manchester United's struggles continued with a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth. Rayan and Marcus Tavernier scored before Evanilson added a third late on. It extends United's winless league run to six games, days after their 4-1 Champions League defeat at Como.

Elsewhere

Newcastle won 2-0 at Crystal Palace with two second-half goals. Oscar Bobb's late strike gave Fulham a 1-0 win at Coventry, ending the league's longest winless away run, according to Squawka. Hull led Brentford through an Oli McBurnie penalty before Dango Ouattara equalised, and Ipswich came from behind to draw 1-1 with Nottingham Forest after Neco Williams' opener was cancelled out by Julio Enciso. Bottom side Sunderland ended a four-match losing run with a goalless draw against Leeds.
